What is Baptism?
Baptism is a physical symbol of a spiritual reality. The spiritual reality that baptism points to is the salvation that Jesus accomplished by his life, death and resurrection. Those who decide to get baptized are those who have decided to turn away from an old way of life that leads to death and instead to turn to the author of life, Jesus Christ, by faith.
Baptism is a very significant thing. First because, Jesus commanded his followers to be baptized in his name. So baptism is tangible evidence that those who are baptized have decided to trust and obey Jesus! This is a beautiful thing!
Secondly, Baptism is significant because it represents that by God’s work in their life and by their faith in God, just like Jesus died on the cross, so these believers have died to their former way of life. And just as Jesus rose from the dead, so these believers have been raised to walk in newness of life empowered by the Sprit of God within them (Romans 6:3-4).
Who Should be Baptized?
If someone has made a genuine profession of faith, then he or she ought to be baptized (Matthew 28:18-19). We encourage you to follow Christ’s command to be baptized as a public profession of your faith in him. We would love to walk with you through considering this opportunity to announce the change that has taken place in your life, and proclaim that Jesus paid the penalty for our sins. If you haven’t made a commitment to Jesus, we would still love to hear from you to answer any questions you may have and help you to learn more about what it means to be a Christian.
